DONA GALE POLING ALKIRE, age 69 years, a resident of Parsons, WV departed this life early Thursday morning, November 11, 2010 at her home, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Sunday, April 27, 1941 at Mt. Zion, Tucker Co, a daughter of the late Stanley G. Poling and Addie B. Pifer Poling. On Sept. 28, 1959, she was married to Roy Eugene Alkire, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Larry Eugene Alkire and Gary Wayne Alkire, both of Parsons; one daughter, Barbara Gale Alkire Shahan and husband Bill of Pifer Mt; one brother, William Guy Poling and wife Deloris of Baltimore, Md; three sisters, Sylvia Gaye Meadows of Mt. Zion, Addie Faye Jackson and husband Ray and Dottie Rae Seymour and husband Donald, all of Baltimore, Md; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Bill II, Tyson and Melissa; and four great grandchildren, Chase, Tyler Jake, Hannah and Haley.
Preceding her in death are two brothers, Roy Grover Poling and Willis Stanley Poling and one sister, Pauline Grace Sutherland.
She attended the schools of Tucker County. She was a former employee of Maryland Cup Company and Carlowreys Glass, both of Baltimore, Md and the former Parsons Footwear, and she was a caretaker.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Saturday from 5 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 1 PM. Pastor Carolyn Shreve will officiate and interment will follow at the Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George.
