Donald Edward Don Carter 1925-2002 Obituary
Donald Edward “Don” Carter, 77, a resident of Parsons, and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas, departed this life Saturday morning, Sept. 14, 2002, at the home.
He had been in declining health and death was attributed to Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born Sept. 1, 1925, at Worcester, Mass., a son of the late Harry Carter and Esther Wheeler Carter.
On Feb. 22, 1975, at Maryland, he was married to the former Eva Lee Bohon, who survives
Also surviving are one son, Timothy Carter, Cary, N.C.; one stepson, Ronald L. Slavin and wife, Suzanne, Seabrook, Texas; one stepdaughter, Pamela Slavin Harper and husband, Richard, Parsons; one sister, Shirley Blood and husband, Arthur, Worcester, Mass.; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He attended the schools of Massachusetts.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a former employee of the Washington Starr Newspaper of Washington, D.C., as a graphic arts designer for 25 years.
He is a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church at Parsons, where he was an active member of the choir and a Sunday school teacher.
He was a member of the Tucker County Senior Center of which he was a member of the Goldenaires.
He was a member of the Stansbury Lodge No. 12 AF & AM, District of Columbia, of which he served as Worshipful Master during the years of 1975 and 1978.
He was a member of the Scottish Rites 32nd Degree, District of Columbia, and was an honorary member of the William R. Singleton-hope-lebanon Lodge No. 7, and a member of Mt. Pleasant No. 13 Royal Arch Masons of the District of Columbia.
The family will receive friends at Barb and Greenlief Funeral Home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Wednesday at 11 a.m.
The Rev. John Morrison and the Rev. Leon Hevener will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery, Parsons.
The Pythagoras Lodge No. 28 AF & AM of Parsons will conduct the ritualistic graveside services.
