Donald Lafayette Carr, 75, a resident of Montrose, passed from this life September 3, 2012 at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown. Donald was born Thursday, July 15, 1937 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Raymond Carr and Enola Elza Carr of the Poe Run Community. Surviving Donald is his wife, Linda Bennett Carr of Montrose, his daughter, Lisa Carr-owens of Montrose, two granddaughters, Lauren and Kaylynn Owens of Montrose, two sisters, Janice Teets of Elkins, and Karen Smith and husband, Robert, of Clairmont, FL, two brothers, Michael Carr of Gilman and Montey Carr of Poe Run, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Donald in death was a sister, Stella Ellen Carr. Donald attended the schools of Randolph County. He had served with the United States Army from 1961-1963 in Germany as an Armor Crewman, and he was honored with numerous awards as an expert marksman with a rifle and was honored as a sharpshooter with a pistol. He worked as a heavy equipment operator, having worked for Kermit Butcher, JF Allen Co., and retiring from Operating Engineer’s Local 132 in2000. Donald was an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and sitting on the porch playing his banjo. He was well known by family and friends for his laughter and storytelling. He loved spending time with his family, especially, his granddaughters. Donald’s request for cremation was honored. A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 10:00am at Elkins Memorial Gardens. The Randolph Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Donald Lafayette Carr.
