Donna McCloud Gooden Cottrell, age 62 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Tuesday morning, July 6, 2010 at Hospice Care Inpatient Center. She had been in declining health since October.
She was born Thursday, March 4, 1948 at Durbin, WV a daughter of the late Garnet Mullennex and Lillian Lockridge Mullennex, who survives at Buckhannon. She was formerly married to Howard Gooden, who survives at Beckley. Also surviving are three sons, Don Gooden, Ron Gooden and wife Tracy, and Jake Gooden, all of Elkins; two sisters, Debra Barsy and Imre, Jr., CA; Lucinda Barrick and Rick, Elkins; three grandchildren, Morgan, Abigale and Tristan Gooden, all of Elkins; one aunt, Crystal Bender, Elkins; and her special bird, Twirp.
She attended the two room school at Kerens, and Elkins High School. She had worked for the former Memorial General Hospital, the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, Davis Memorial Hospital and as a private, compassionate caregiver for many families of Elkins. She attended the Wayside United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Aerie # 2344, Frateral Order of Eagles Auxiliary.
Donna’s request for cremation was honored. The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 12:30 to 1:30 PM, Saturday, July 10, 2010 at which time a Memorial Service will be conducted with the Rev. Kevin Gainer officiating. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Hospice Care Inpatient Center, 169 Diamond Street, Elkins, WV 26241.
