Doris E. Barrett, age 86 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Saturday morning, April 23, 2011 at Colonial Place. She was born July 19, 1924 at Parsons, a daughter of the late Robert Luther Myers and the late Simella Canfield Myers. She was married three times, first to Shirley Thomas Biller, later to Earl P. Wiseman and later to Lewis E. Barrett, all of whom preceded her in death. Surviving are one son, Mark L. Biller, Elkins, two daughters, Cheryl Darlene Gilkerson and husband Paul, Elkins, and Kathy Jane Osborn Helmick and husband Paul of Reedsville, WV. One brother, Max E. Myers, Charleston, SC, six grandchildren, Erik Thomas Nefflen, Vanessa Dawn Nefflen, Simmie Jane Hoeft, Bradi Jean Newsome, Ryan Mathew Biller and Brandon Alexander Biller, two step grandsons, Matthew and Mason Helmick, three great grandchildren, Conner and Hailey Hoeft and John Leslie Boston and two step-great grandchildren, Kaiden and Cora Helmick and many nieces and nephews also survive. Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Leo, Paul and Robert, six sisters, Edna, Edith, Marion, Opal, Jean Anne and Midge and one grandson, Louis Henry “Hank” Nefflen.
Doris was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1942. She was employed by Clintons Shoe Store, Montgomery Ward and was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture at the time of her retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins.
Friends may call from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 27th from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Elkins, 315 Kerens Ave., Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Doris. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Doris E. Barrett.
