Elmer Ray Wamsley, 91, a resident of Mill Creek, WV passed from this life, Thursday , August 23, 2012 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown resulting from injuries sustained in an auto accident on August 7, 2012. Elmer was born Wednesday, August 17, 1921 at Jerusalem, a son of the late William Jonathan Wamsley and Addie Mae Shreve Wamsley. On July 20, 1953, he was married to the former Amolia “Molly” Rose Lipovec, who preceded him in death during 1990. Elmer is survived by two sons, Johnny R. Wamsley and wife, Linda, and James E. Wamsley and wife, Lisa, all of Mill Creek, three siblings, Ruth Mills of Union, Mason Nile Wamsley of Akron, OH, and Edith Chewning of Canton, OH, two grandsons, Ryan Matthew Wamsley of Valley Bend and Nicholas Ray Wamsley of Mill Creek, one sister-in-law, Sophie Allender of Dennison, TX, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Elmer in death were five siblings, Floyd Wamsley, Lacy Wamsley, William Gearld “Bill” Wamsley, Bertha Pierson, and Ralph “Biggie” Wamsley. Elmer graduated from Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1940. He served the United States Army during World War II as a Field Lineman in Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 319th Infantry in the European Theatre. He retired from Hayes Scott Fence & Lumber Company, where he worked as a mechanic and a truck driver. As a man who knew the value of hard work, Elmer also enjoyed life through being outdoors, hunting, gardening, cutting firewood, working on trucks, and dirt track racing where he helped Defibaugh Racing for many years. He loved spending time with his family and was a Methodist by faith. Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home on Monday, August 27, 2012 from 11AM until 1PM, the funeral hour. The Reverend William Lanham will officiate and interment will follow at the Jerusalem Cemetery at Mill Creek where members of the HW Daniels Post #29, American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the WV Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
