Elwin Hun Ashby 1925-2002 Obituary
Elwin “Hun” Ashby, 77, a resident of the Talbott Road in Belington, was pronounced deceased upon arrival at 9:55 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Broaddus Hospital in Philippi. He had been in failing health for some time.
He was born on April 4, 1925, at Scotts Run in Monongalia County, a son of the late Bunt and Mable George Ashby.
In December 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Norma Jean Smallridge, who preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 1996.
Surviving are two sons, Doug E. Ashby and Jerry Ashby, both of Belington; one daughter, Janet L. Spencer, Oklahoma City, Okla.; one half brother, Julius Paolini, Hudson, Ohio; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilton and Elman Ashby.
Mr. Ashby attended the schools of Barbour County. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II in France. Belgium, Germany and England. He also served in the Korean Conflict being stationed at Ft. Knox. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Belington and was a retired self-employed businessman
At the request of the deceased his remains will be cremated. His cremains will be interred in the Fraternal Cemetery at Belington, Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements.
