Ernest Joseph Tarantelli 1931-2002 Obituary
Ernest Joseph Tarantelli, 70, a resident of Scott Depot, departed this life on Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at Putnam General Hospital at Hurricane.
He was born on Sept. 2, 1931, at Harding, a son of the late Joseph Tarantelli and Frances Mastrogiuseppe Tarantelli.
He was married to the former Karen Fox, who survives at Scott Depot.
Also surviving are one son, Joseph Anthony Tarantelli, Scott Depot; three sisters, Dora Carlucci, McLean, Va., Cecelia Ancell and Angela Miller, both of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Anthony “Tony” Tarantelli; and two sisters, Jean Antolini and Valeria Tarantelli.
Mr. Tarantelli was a graduate of Elkins High School. He received a bachelor of arts degree in business administration from Davis & Elkins College and attended West Virginia University, working toward a master’s degree. He was a member of Delta Chapter of Zeta Sigma and the Gamma Delta Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi. He served as a captain with U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict and was the commanding officer of the South Charleston Reserve Detachment during the 1960s.
He was the owner and operator of EJT Equipment Inc. and had worked within the heavy equipment industry with other companies for several years. He was formerly employed in operations management of the West Virginia Department of Highways, and was a former representative of the MetLife and Prudential Insurance Companies. He was a charter member of the Catholic Church of the Ascension at Hurricane.
Friends will be received at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. At 8:30 p.m. today, in the funeral home chapel, a prayer service will be held. On Saturday, Mr. Tarantelli will be moved to the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at Saint Albans, where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Father Patrick M. McDonough as the presider. Mr. Tarantelli will then be moved to Lohr & Barb Funeral Home where friends will be received on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at Saint Brendan Catholic Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Father William Anderson officiating. Interment will follow.
