Eugene Morrison 1921-2001 Obituary
Eugene Ray Morrison, 79 of Pheasant Run, Randolph County, died Sept. 8, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. He had been in declining health for the past three weeks and death was attributed to complications due to open-heart surgery.
He was born Sept. 26, 1921 at Elkins, a son of the late Bertie Ray and Martha Jane Vanscoy Morrison. On March 4, 1947 at Parsons, he was married to the former Maxine Alice Vanscoy, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Floyd (and Jean) Morrison, St. George, Kenneth Morrison, at home; two daughters, Carolyn Jo (and Ward) Canfield, Kerens, Lois (and Harold) Arbogast, Parsons; a brother, Noel (and Marion) Morrison, Beverly; two sisters, Ethel Pigott, Leavittsburg, OH and Eleanor Kittle, Southington, OH; four grandchildren, Melissa Evans, Mebane, NC., Timothy Canfield, Morgantown, Diana Poling, Buckhannon, Amy Bolyard, Independence; two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Nathaniel Poling, Buckhannon, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Carlton “Jack” Morrison; three sisters, Hildren Nelson, Georgia Kalar and Maxine Allender.
He attended the schools of Randolph County and Parsons High School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Mililtary Police in European and Pacific Theaters of War. He was employed as a carman helper for the Western Maryland Railroad, later known as Chessie System until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carman and a member of the American Legion H.W. Daniels Post 29 Elkins. He was a member of the AARP. HE was a member of the Farmers’ Chapel Church until its closing in 1968. Hewas a charter member of the Riverview Chapel Church in Porterwood. He helped in the construction of the Riverview Chapel Church and served on the board of trustees.
Friends were received at the Barb-Funeral Home Sept. 11, Mr. Morrison was moved to the Riverview Chapel Church at Porterwood, Pastors Benny Simmons, Peg Harris Fansler and Ronald Nestor officiated and interment followed at the Israel Cemetery, Kerens.
