Evelyn A. Simmons “Sissy” Davis Starcher, age 87 years, a resident of Sebring, FL and more recently a resident of Colonial Place at Elkins, WV departed this life Friday afternoon, February 19, 2021 at Colonial Place surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Mountain Hospice.
She was born Sunday, May 14, 1933 at Elkins, WV a daughter of the late Verl Otto and Lena Kathleen Canfield Simmons. Surviving are two sons, Kevin Mark Davis and fiancé Raquel of Beverly, James “Jim” Davis Jr. of Beverly; and two brothers, Douglas “Doug” Simmons of Kerens, Verl Otto “Junior” Simmons, Jr., of Beverly.
Preceding her in death are five brothers, William Jackson “Bill” Simmons, Sr., Arling Randolph “Bud” Simmons, Denzil David “Sonny” Simmons, Harry E. Simmons, and Richard Simmons.
Sissy attended Elkins High School and had taken cooking classes at the Greenbrier Resort. She had done some modeling in her younger years and was the owner and operator of “Sissy’s” Restaurant at Beverly for several years. She later taught cooking classes at the Greenbrier Resort, enjoyed gardening and was a Christian by faith.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 6 PM, Tuesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 11 AM. Verl Simmons will officiate and interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Country Club Road, Elkins, WV.
