Everett Hugh “Bud” Groves, 74, of Rainelle, passed away peacefully at Heartland of Rainelle Tuesday, March 26, 2002, following a long illness.
Mr. Groves was born Aug. 15, 1927, at Albright, in Preston County, a son of the late Cloyd D. and Nettie F. Martin Groves.
He was married to Doris C. Shafer Groves, who survives at Rainelle.
Also surviving are two daughters, Barbara Bruce of Farmington, Va., and Sue Ann Adkins of Huntington; one son, Rusty Groves of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Betty Sutton of Elkins, and Sibby Boothe of Elkhart, Ind.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one stepdaughter, Marsha Mead of Bluefield, Va.; two stepsons, Eddie Adkins of Washington, D.C., and Mark Adkins of Fayetteville; five stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Westmoreland Coal Co. in 1985. He was a former member of Quinwood Baptist Church and Quinwood Fire Department. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Rainelle where he served as custodian and on the board of ushers.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Rainelle with Pastor Dana Gatewood and the Rev. Houston Boothe officiating. Church members will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville. The Groves family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral services. Wallace & Wallace of Rainelle is in charge of the arrangements.
