Frankie Cogar, 65, a resident of 425 Isner Creek Road, Elkins, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at 9:38 a.m. at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past four months; however, death was sudden.
He was born April 26, 1936, at Huttonsville, a son of the late Asbury and Vida May Collins Cogar.
He is survived by a close companion, Joan L. Cummins, where he had made his home for the past 35 years.
Also surviving are three daughters, Doreen Ann Cogar of Freeholt, N.J., Sarah Louise Floyd of Beverly, and Suzy May Cogar of Elkins; one stepdaughter, Charlotte B. Watson of Philippi; one son, Frank Jr. Cogar of Homesdale, N.J.; three stepsons, Darrell A. Cummins of Rock Cave, Joe A. Cummins and James E. Cummins, both of Elkins; one sister, Mary Leary of Cowan; two brothers, Emory Cogar of Florida, and Cecil Cogar of Jamesburg, N.J.; 16 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents are four sisters, Gladys Cogar, Wealthy Cogar, LeLa Fry and Opal Ward; and one brother, Acy Cogar.
He was employed by the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a Protestant by faith and was a member of the National Guard. He also loved horses.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel Friday after 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner Chapel Saturday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Robert Shreve of Beverly will officiate. Interment will follow in Woods Cemetery at Cowan, Webster County.
