G. Gladys Harsh Dumire 1924-2012 Obituary
G. Gladys Harsh Dumire, 88, a resident of Parsons, passed from this life Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the Hospice Impatient Care Center in Elkins. She was born Sunday, March 30, 1924 in Parsons, a daughter of the late Aldine Harsh and Clara Ethel McDonald Harsh. On December 7, 1947 at Oakland, MD, she was united in marriage to Walter “Pinkie” Dumire who preceded in her death October 6, 2003. They had celebrated 56 years of marriage. She attended Parsons Grade School and graduated from Parsons High School as Valedictorian of her class in 1943. She attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in June, 1947. She worked for the former Tucker County Hospital and for the State Health Department as TB Control Nurse. She started the first Tucker County Health Department and worked there until she retired in 1987. She was the recipient of the Golden Horseshoe Award. In 2006 she was inducted in to the Parsons High School Hall of Fame. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, an active member of the Parsons Community and a member of the Concerned Citizen’s Coalition as a “Cookie Lady”. She was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice “Smokey” Harsh and three sisters, Eva Jones, Madge Long and Mary Frances Harsh who died in infancy. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, special friends, Martin and Jean Wilmoth and her beloved cat, Charlie. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a very loving, caring and giving person and willing to help anyone in need. She was a very special lady and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held at the Summerfield Funeral Home of Parsons on Sunday from 5PM until 8PM. Funeral services will be held at St. John’s United Methodist Church on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 11AM. The Reverend Philip Dent will officiate and interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows. The Summerfield Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Gladys Harsh Dumire.
