Geneva Kisamore Buchanan, 93, a resident of Parsons, departed this life on Friday afternoon, Oct. 25, 2002, at the Life Care Center at New Market, Va., following a brief illness. Death was attributed to a stroke.
She was born on Sept. 27, 1909, on Chenoweth Creek Road at Elkins, a daughter of Benjamin Paul Kisamore and Mary Magdalina Thompson Kisamore.
On July 13, 1940, at Winchester, Va., she was married to Charles Thomas Buchanan, who preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1988.
Surviving are one son, Thomas Paul Buchanan and wife, Alice, of Stephens City, Va.; one daughter, Lois Jean Shaffer and husband, Kenneth, of Baltimore, Md.; one stepdaughter-in-law, Nina B. Buchanan of Parsons; six grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Jo Plumb; two brothers, Dice Harper Kisamore and Dennis Paul Kisamore; four sisters, Bertha Sizeman, Celia Board, Mildred Reed and Katherine “Babe” Salinero; one great-grandchild, Jo Ellen Buchanan; one stepdaughter, Dorothy B. DePollo; one stepgrandson, Donald David DePollo; and one daughter-in-law, Vancine Nestor Buchanan.
She attended the one-room school at Mt. Zion. She was a member of the Liberty Rebecca Lodge 95 of Parsons and a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church for 55 years.
The family will receive friends at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home today from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Tuesday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Leon Hevener will officiate and interment will follow at Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Geneva Kisamore Buchanan.
