George Edward Phillips, 70, of Staunton, Va. died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at his residence. He is formerly of Elkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Delbert and Madge Phillips.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jean Ann Phillips of Staunton, Va.; two sons, Michael Edward Phillips and wife, Beth, of Staunton, Va., and Jeffrey Lee Phillips and wife, Martha, of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Barbara Meece of Elkins; three granddaughters, Rebecca Marie Phillips of Richmond, Va., Kelsey Ann Phillips of Richmond, Va., Sarah Elizabeth Crosby of Staunton, Va. He is also survived by two nieces, Kim Meece of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Amy Meece of New York City, N.Y.
Mr. Phillips was a graduate of Marshall University in West Virginia in 1954. He was also in the U.S. Army. He was employed for 33 years with DuPont in Waynesboro, Va. He was a member of the Staunton Civic Club and also a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Hamrick Funeral Home, 18 West Frederick St., Staunton, Va. Interment will be private. Officiating will be the Rev. Clay Sterrett.
