George Wayne Anderson “Andy” Currence, 87, a resident of Mill Creek, passed from this life late Sundayevening, February 19, 2012, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Buckhannon, WV. He was born Monday, December 1, 1924 at Mill Creek, a son of the late Hileary Currence, Sr. and Ethel Jordan Currence. On July 3, 1952 at Oakland, MD, he was married to Wilda Fern Hornbeck, who preceded him in death on January 29, 2011. Surviving is one daughter, Teresa Dianne New and husband, Joseph of Mill Creek, three grandchildren, Crystal Dawn Cutright and husband, Denny L. Cutright, Jr., Jessica Dawn Taylor and fiancé, David Armstrong, and Dustin Lee Taylor, four great grandchildren, Lane Hunter Cutright, Halee Leann Cutright, Connor Blake Armstrong, and Brayden Andrew Armstrong, two sisters, Nellie Shiflett and Beatrice Markley both of Mill Creek, two brothers, William J. Currence of Mill Creek and Woodrow “Wilson” Currence of Elkins, a special daughter in law, Pamela Taylor, and many special nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were two sisters, Jean Corley and Virginia “Lucille” Hamrick, one brother, Hileary Currence, Jr., and a special foster son, Danny Lee Taylor. A lifelong resident of Mill Creek, Andy attended Tygart Valley High School, however, during his senior year, he was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. In 2003, a graduation ceremony was held in which Andy received his High School Diploma and had his daughter and all of his grandchildren present. After being discharged from the Army, he worked as a carman for the Western Maryland Railroad and he had also worked for the West Virginia Department of Corrections. Together with his wife, he also owned and operated Mill Creek’s WVABC and General Store. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work, gardening, and bluegrass music. Visitation will be at the Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Wednesday, February 22, from 6 PM until 8 PM. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home chapel on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 1PM. Pastor Bobbie Rogers will officiate and interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville where members of the H.W. Daniels Post #29, American Legion, the Tygarts Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the West Virginia Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
