Glenna Jean Isner Caplinger Shurtleff, age 84 years, a resident of Elkins and a patient in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away Monday evening, March 14, 2011 in the Center. She was born May 13, 1926 in Elkins, a daughter of the late Glenn C. Isner and the late Mabel Canfield Isner. She was twice married, first to Jacob W. Caplinger, Jr., who preceded her in death on July 12, 1980. On December 20, 1981, she married Vincent L. Shurtleff who also preceded her in death. Surviving are two sons, Jacob W. Caplinger, III, Newport News, VA and Michael Glenn Caplinger of Pleasant, WV. One brother, Calvin Isner, Elkins, one sister, Margaret Isner Meadows, Montrose and two granddaughters, Lynette Jean Caplinger and Suzanne Marie Caplinger also survive.
Mrs. Shurtleff attended the schools of Randolph County and was employed as a Teacher’s Aide at Beverly Elementary School prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Elkins-randolph County Senior Center and the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church.
Friends may call from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 18th from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Calhoun officiating. Interment will follow in the Caplinger Family Cemetery near Beverly. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Glenna Jean Isner Caplinger Shurtleff.
