Harold Brown 1914-2003 Obituary
Harold Brown, 88, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Thursday, March, 6, 2003, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 29, 1914, at Adolph, the son of the late Cecil and Zelda Carlson Brown.
On Sept. 15, 1934, he was married to Hallie Fincham Brown, who preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 1999.
He is survived by three sons, Douglas Brown and Dennis Brown, both of Silver Spring, Md., and Benjamin Brown of Relay, Md.; three daughters, Olive Bradshaw of Hampton, Va., Jean Harris of Buckhannon, and Patricia Jenkins of Frederick, Md.; two brothers, Junior Brown of Ellamore, and Ronald Brown of Spencer; and four sisters, Mary Chewning of Wooster, Ohio, Marie Brown of Enterprise, Virginia Barr of Winfield, and Margaret Ratliff of Buckhannon. An aunt, Madge Huffman of Coalton; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Brown was the oldest of 12 children.
Preceding him in death were one son, Everett Brown; four brothers, Paul, Robert, Joe and Mark Brown; and one sister, Juanita Shannon. Mr. Brown attended the schools of Randolph County and was employed in the coal mining industry for 49 years.
He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 4172, was a devoted husband, father and neighbor, and enjoyed the hobbies of hunting, fishing, trapping, honeybees and gardening.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
On Sunday, he will be moved to the Mill Creek United Methodist Church where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m.
The Rev. Verl Simmons will officiate and interment will follow in the Fincham Chapel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, West Virginia Affiliate, PO Box 11062, Charleston, W.Va. 25339, in memory of Mr. Brown.
