Harold Sweden Springer 1930-2019 Obituary
Harold Sweden Springer, 88, of Fairmont, passed away on Saturday, February 02, 2019, at Fairmont Regional Medical Center. He was born on August 16, 1930, in Fairmont, a son of the late Ira Elliott Springer and Gertrude (McElfresh) Springer.
Harold graduated from East Fairmont High School and Penn State University, as well as proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force; he went on to work as a meteorologist for WVU and later retired from the United States Postal Service. He will be remembered for his love of golfing, traveling, and WVU football and basketball.
Harold is survived by nephews, Norman A. Springer (Nancy Rae), of Martinsburg, and David F. Springer (Barbara), of Fairmont; and nieces and nephews: Shonnette Kingston, Kate Springer, George Gentekos, Frank Billingham, and Deanne Morgan.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by nieces: Laurel Springer, Nancy Billingham, and Frances Gentekos; and brothers: Paul William Springer, Robert Elliott Springer, and Kenneth Firman Springer.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Fitzwater’s Assisted Living and their staff, as well as his former caretaker, Sherry Wable.
Family and friends are welcome to call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Monday, February 04, 2019, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., with services starting at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
