Harry Phillip Simmons, age 61, of Buckhannon, WV. He was diagnosed with gastric cancer in April of 2012 and died peacefully at home with his family by his side Wednesday, November 14, 2012. He was born March 18, 1951 in Muncie, IN, a son of the late Harry Kendall and Willie Mae Doan Simmons. On October 13, 1973 he married Gale Skinner who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Trisha Branham and husband Donald of Fayetteville, NC; one son Ryan Phillip Simmons and wife Ashley of Hudson, FL; one grandson, Albert Branham of Fayetteville; two granddaughters, Jordan Branham of Fayetteville and Rhylie Heather Simmons of Hudson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Heather Erin Simmons; one sister, Charlotte Smekens and one nephew Dan Smekens. Mr. Simmons was a Christian by faith. He was also a volunteer and president of the Upshur Co. Little League and Babe Ruth, a member of the Buckhannon Country Club and an avid golfer. He retired from CSX in 2009 with 38 years of service where he worked as a Road Master. He was a beloved husband, father, uncle and friend. Friends will be received Sunday, November 18, 2012 from 5-9 PM at the Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Monday, November 19, 2012 at the Chapel Hill UMC with the Dr. Rev. Joe Shreve officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Poling-st.
