Harvey Earl Fleming Jr. 1930-2002 Obituary
Harvey Earl Fleming Jr., 71, a resident of 1106 S. Kerens Ave., Elkins, departed this life early Wednesday morning, April 3, 2002, at his home. He had been in declining health for the past six months although death was unexpected.
He was born April 8, 1930, at New Market, Va., a son of the late Harvey Earl Fleming Sr. and Eileen Alexander Fleming.
On Sept. 7, 1962, at Elkins, he married the former Margaret Coberly Morris, who survives.
Also surviving are one stepson, Robert Morris, Pittsburgh, Pa.; three stepdaughters, Connie Anderson, Bluefield, Mary Beth Bennett, Kokomo, Ind., and Jean Safrit, Aberdeen, Md.; two brothers, James Fleming, Harrisonburg, Va., and Homer Fleming, Charlottesville, Va.; one sister, Etta McGagee, Harrisonburg, Va.; 11 stepgrandchildren, several stepgreat-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Fleming was a graduate of New Market High School with the class of 1947. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving for four years.
He was a graduate of Virginia Tech, was a forester, having worked for the U.S. Forest Service at Virginia, Richwood and Elkins, from which he retired. He was a member of the H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion, Elkins Lodge 108, AF & AM and was a Methodist by faith.
Cremation services were provided by Lohr-barb-vance Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery. Pastor Charles R. Herron will officiate and interment of the cremains will follow, with the H.W. Daniel’s Post 29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars conducting full military rites and the Elkins Lodge 108, AF & AM conducting Masonic graveside rites.
