Herman Donald Lambert Sr., 86, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Monday morning, July 29, 2002, at Broaddus Hospital in Philippi. He had been in declining health for the past six weeks.
He was born Aug. 3, 1915, at Flanagan Hill, Dry Fork, a son of the late Walter Wythe Lambert and Verna Susan Waybright.
In 1939, he was married to Ruth Irene Gross, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 1, 1941, he was married to Eloene Yvonne Huff Lambert, who survives.
Surviving are three sons, H. Donald Lambert Jr. and Jeanie, Elkins, Howard Eliott Lambert and Patricia, Perkiomenville, Pa., and William Wythe “Bill” Lambert and Lois, Parsons; one daughter, Donna Jean Schoonover and Bill, Grafton; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He attended the schools of Tucker County and was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1933. He attended West Virginia Wesleyan College. He was a former employee of the Western Maryland Railroad, the Reynold’s Bus Line, and The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co., the Barrick’s Ford Co., and Webb Ford Co., where he was parts, service and purchasing manager. He was a salesman for Lambert Chevrolet Co. of Parsons, from 1964 until his retirement Aug. 1, 1980. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where he had served as Lay Leader and Sunday School teacher of the men’s class. He was a church trustee and parsonage trustee and was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Men. He served as church treasurer for 15 years. He was a member of the Holly Meadows Country Club, where he had served as president, board of trustees and chairman of the administrative board. he was a member of Parsons High School Alumni Association, where he served as vice president since its beginning. He was inducted into the PHS Alumni Hall of Fame in 2001.
The family will receive friends at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home inParsons from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Thursday at 2 p.m. The Rev. J. Michael Lantz will officiate and interment will follow at Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.
