Homer “Gerald” Martin 1926-2021 Obituary
Homer “Gerald” Martin, 95, a resident of Beverly, passed from this life Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at Nella’s at Autumn Lake in Elkins.
Gerald was born Monday, April 26, 1926, in Parsons, a son of the late Thurman Martin and Dessie Moore Martin. On September 12, 1946, he married the former Buena Mae Bedford who preceded him in death in 1993.
Left to cherish his memory are three children, Bill Simmons and wife Sarah of Elkins, Patty Bennett of Norton, and Donald Martin and wife Sharon of Beverly, seven grandchildren, Todd, Billy, Johnny, Jimmy, Tammy, Susan, and Cassie, several great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were three siblings, Audrey Bedford, Stuart Martin, and Thurman Boyd Martin, and one grandson, Gerald “Mack” Martin.
Gerald attended the schools of Randolph County and proudly served his country in the United States Army. For several years he owned Martin’s Sawmill with his two brothers. At the top of Norton Hill, he owned and operated Martin’s Service Station for twenty years. After moving to Belington, he and his wife Beuna worked as paramedics for Barbour County EMS for fourteen years. He was a fifty-five-year member of Belington Lodge #125, A.F & A.M. Gerald was a good Christian man who was liked and loved by everyone. He had a great sense of humor and he never knew a stranger.
Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Thursday, October 14, 2021, from 5 PM until 7 PM. Gerald’s request for cremation will then be honored. A graveside service will be held at Mountain State Memorial Gardens Monday, October 18, 2021, at 1 PM. Rev. Gary Phillips will officiate and interment will follow. Members of HW Daniels Post #29, American Legion, Tygart Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the WV Honor Guard will conduct full military honors and Belington Lodge #125, A.F. & A.M. will conduct Masonic Graveside Rites.
