Howard A. Cross, age 81 years, a resident of Montrose, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Sunday, April 17, 2011 following an extended illness. He was born January 26, 1930 at Moore, Tucker County, a son of the late Thomas and Bertha Summerfield Cross. He was married to the former Ada Jones who survives at Montrose. Also surviving are three daughters, Linda Bartlett, Hurricane, WV, Dinah Tomblyn and husband Mark, Elkins and Debbie Judy and husband Allen of Dailey. One brother, Joe Cross, Parsons, two sisters, Beulah Reynolds, Parsons, Luria Vance of Kerens and seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Bartlett, Raleigh, NC, Joshua Bartlett, Knoxville, TN, Amanda and Alex Tomblyn, Elkins, Cody, Caleb and Mallorie Judy of Dailey also survive. Also preceding him in death were four brothers, Oakey, Omer, Charles and Ernie Cross and one sister Violet Martin.
Howard attended the schools of Tucker County and was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was employed for many years by the United States Forest Service prior to his retirement in 1985.
Friends may call from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Cremation will follow.
