Howard Hall Gear 1918-2013 Obituary
Howard Hall Gear, 94, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Monday afternoon, March 25, 2013, at Valentine Assisted Living in Beverly. Howard was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was a gentle giant with a compassionate heart and provided humble service to others. He embodied the strength and wisdom described in Proverbs and believed that life should be lived as directed by scripture. Howard has fought the good fight and now sees the face of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ida Gear, wives, Dollie Madison Gear and Macel “Mitzi” Gear and son in law Leon Winans. Left to cherish Howard’s memory are three daughters: Margaret Ann Winans of Elkins, Vickie Lynn Kelley and husband Art of NC and Janet Sue Wolfe and husband Jim of IL, seven grandchildren: Matt Kelley and wife Meredith, Josh Kelley, Karla Gidwani and husband Sanjay, Owen Wolfe, Joyce Henline, Sherri Davis and husband Matt and Cecil Winans, ten great grandchildren: Ashley Henline, Justin Pennington, Dillon Hamrick, Cory Lambert, Brayden and Hannah Davis, Tristan and Ean Winans, Piper Kelley and Asha Gidwani, and one great great grandchild: Jordan Hamrick. Mr. Gear‘s request for cremation will be honored. A graveside service will be held at Elkins Memorial Gardens on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Howard’s memory to the Burlington Children’s Home Ministry through the First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerns Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241
