Hubert Brewer Evans Obituary 1933-2020
Hubert Brewer Evans, 87, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Friday evening, Dec. 18, 2020, at the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center at Elkins, with his loving daughters by his side.
He was born Wednesday, Feb. 8, 1933, at Elkins, a son of the late Harley Brewer and Lena Dove Lowther Evans. On Feb. 24, 1954, at Monterey, Va., he was married to the love of his life, the former Lillian L. White, who preceded him in death April 25, 1993.
Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Kay Caprara and husband, Greg, of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Jennifer Lou “Jenny” Markley and husband, Randy, of Elkins; one brother, Edgar Evans of Va.; five grandchildren, Luke Markley of Elkins, Connor Caprara of Pittsburgh, Pa., April Senic and husband, Shane, of Alpena, Stephanie Riddle of Mill Creek and Mikayla Nethken and husband, Dusty, of Mabie; and two great-grandchildren, Addison Riddle and Jacob Riddle, both of Mill Creek.
Preceding him in death are one son, David Hubert Evans; two brothers, Ralph Evans and Robert “Bob” Evans; and seven sisters, Mildred Doerr, Lola “Marg” Carr, Verda Nestor, Mable Cook, Virginia Hyre, Ruth Hitt and Katherine Chenoweth.
He attended the Sugar Grove School, and worked on the Evans Brothers Dairy Farm. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953, where he was stationed in England during the Korean Conflict. He was a heavy equipment operator in the Army, attached to the Air Force building airport runways. He then joined the West Virginia Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve, where he retired from 646 QM Company, with the Rank of Master Sergeant.
He had previously worked for Tygart Molding Company and later retired from Tanner Lumber Company in 2008, and was a farmer. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed ginsanging and gardening, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 5 p.m., Monday. A Graveside Service will be conducted at the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale, on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley will officiate and interment will follow with full Military Honors will be accorded by members of the West Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard Program, the H. W. Daniel’s Post No. 29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post No. 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
