Iva L. Carpenter 1916-2003 Obituary
Iva Luemain Carpenter, 86, of Route 2, French Creek, Alton Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born Sept. 21, 1916, at Goshen, the daughter of the late Albert and Emma Strader Sines.
She was united in marriage on Oct. 4, 1931, to Olen Carpenter, who survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Otto and wife, Mamie Carpenter, of French Creek; five daughters, Betty and husband, Pete Wayts, of Buckhannon, Katherine and husband, Clay Hanline, of French Creek, Rosemary and husband, Hubert Lee, of Amherst, Ohio, Fern Hoose of Bellevue, Ohio, and Linda Cutright of French Creek; 31 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson; one great-grandson; three brothers, Emory, Noras and Berlin Sines; and two sisters, Roxie McKenzia and Lucy Gillum.
Mrs. Carpenter was a housewife, a lifetime member and past treasurer of the Alton United Methodist Church and received a 20-year perfect attendance pin.
She was a member of the Alton Community Group, the Alton Community Education Outreach Service and the Knights of Pythians Sisters.
Friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
She will lie in state at the Alton United Methodist Church Friday from noon to 1 p.m., the funeral hour.
The Rev. Sue Lowther will officiate. Interment will follow in the Indian Camp Cemetery.
