Ivy Belle Koon Black Shipman, age 105, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born on April 3, 1906 in Queens, WV, a daughter of the late Matilda Koon Thayer Talbott. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Elva Black and 2nd husband, Harley Shipman; two daughters, Glenna Mae Black and Lena Mae Black; two sons, Elva James Black, Arkie Black and two infant sons deceased at birth; two grandsons, Matthew Black and Paul Smith; two great grandsons, Everett Paul Smith, II and Baby Black; one step son, Buck Shipman and two brothers, Oren Talbott and Hoy Thayer. She is survived by three daughters, Catherine Light of Buckhannon, Leona Dean and husband Dewey of Buckhannon and Carolyn Brown of Buckhannon; five sons, Owen Black and wife Cecelia of Buckhannon, Homer Black of OH, Russell Black and wife Shirley of Buckhannon , Johnney Black and wife Judie of Buckhannon and Ralph Black and wife Marie of Valley Bend, WV; five step children; twenty-eight grandchildren, sixty-eight great-grandchildren and twenty-six great-great grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren and one sister, Hazel Groves of Lorentz, WV. Mrs. Shipman was a homemaker and a member of the Rupert United Methodist Church. Friends will be received Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease L. Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery at Tallmansville, WV. Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
