JAMES DALE KIRKPATRICK, age 62 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Thursday afternoon, March 24, 2011 at the Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sunday May 9, 1948 at Elkins, WV a son of the late Onie & Betty Jo Phillips. He is survived by one daughter, Kelly Kirkpatrick and his grandson Corbin, both of Indiana; two sisters, Sue Brandt, Rolling Heights, CA; Debbie Jo Tenney, a patient at the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center at Belington; two brothers, Danny Kirkpatrick, Elkins; Mark Phillips, Catonsville, MD; and a special cousin, Shirley Bee of Arkansas.
He cherished Dave McDonald & his family in Phillipi. He was a wonderful “brother” & friend. He will be greatly missed by all.
James graduated from Elkins High School with the class of 1966 and was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Marshall University with a degree in English Education. He had worked as an English teacher in California and North Carolina and as a substitute teacher in Randolph County. He was an avid chess player through college and went on to teach many others this wonderful game.
Before his stay at Elkins Regional Convalescent Center he had lived in Valley Village Apartments, where he had many friends and a special “mom” that he will miss.
Mr. Kirkpatrick’s request for cremation and no service was honored.
