James F. Sloan, 72, a former resident of Beverly, and a resident of Ocala, Fla., passed away Sunday afternoon, April 7, 2002, in Ocala, Fla.
He was born Aug. 19, 1929, at Price Hill, a son of the late Charles and Elsie Light Sloan.
He was married to Mildred Wilmoth Sloan, who survives in Ocala, Fla.
Also surviving are two daughters, Beverly Sloan Fallon and Janet Sloan McGonigal, both of Boston, Mass.; one sister, Cecilia Williams of Foster; and two grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were three brothers and one sister.
Mr. Sloan was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a businessman, farmer and was involved in thoroughbred horse racing prior to his retirement. He was a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion, Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and BPOE Lodge No. 1135 of Elkins.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Donald L. Fitzwater and the Rev. George Maxwell officiating. Entombment will follow in Beverly Cemetery.
