James Samuel “Sam” Jones, 65, a former resident of Montrose, and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas, departed this life early Thursday morning, Sept. 5, 2002, at the nursing home. He had been in declining health for many years.
He was born July 25, 1937, at Brown Siding, near Moore, a son of the late Nelson Jones and Nora Cassidy Jones.
On Jan. 28, 1971, he was married to the former Stella Amie, who preceded him in death on Jan. 20, 1999.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, having raised two nieces, Julie H.L. Ferguson and husband, Jeff, Elkins, and Margaret Almedia “Maggie” Amie, Montrose; one nephew, James “Allen” Amie Jr., Buckhannon; and one sister, Mary Streets, Philippi.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Harvey, Ray, Alston, John and Earl Jones; and two sisters, Eva Jones and Lucille Streets.
He attended the school at Moore. He was a former employee of the Kingsford Charcoal Co. at Parsons and was a truck driver for the Ricottilli Lumber Co. at Moore.
The family will receive friends at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Sunday at 1 p.m. Pastor Pat Cassidy will officiate and interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery at St. George.
