James William Logan, 78, a resident of 1401 Harrison Ave., Elkins, departed this life at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at Davis Memorial Hospital.

He had been in declining health for the past two years and death was attributed to cancer.

He was born March 23, 1924, at Norton, the son of the late Frank Patterson Logan and Bertha George Logan.

Surviving are two special friends, Anna Mae Harris, Elkins, and his advisor, Greg Morgan, Elkins; two uncles, Glenn Logan, Baltimore, Md., and Burton George, Atlanta, Ga.; three aunts, L. Amy Arbogast, Elkins, Georgia Pope, New Bern, N.C., and Eleanora Woodford, Oak Hill; and numerous cousins.

Mr. Logan graduated from Parsons High School in the class of 1942.

Upon graduation from high school he entered the military and served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He attended Davis & Elkins College and graduated from the Wheeling Barber School in June 1953.

He owned and operated a barbershop in the Elkins area and along with his father worked as coal prospectors, owning and operating Logan Core Drilling Co.

He was a member of the Tygarts Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the First United Methodist Church of Elkins.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and the great outdoors.

Friends will be received at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery, where members of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygarts Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military honors.
