Jean Corley Steerman, 82, a resident of Elkins passed from this life Wednesday evening, January 4, 2012 at the Davis Memorial Hospital Emergency Department. She was born Thursday, October 10, 1929 at Elkins, a daughter of the late Denver Jay Corley and Julia Bartlett Corley. On December 11, 1954, Jean was married to Burton Edward “Ed” Steerman, who survives. Also left to cherish Jean’s memory are two daughters, Anita Fortney and husband, Loren and Edie Brake and husband, Tim, one grandson, Nathan Fortney and wife, Christie, one granddaughter, Catherine Brake, two step great grandchildren, Kiara Carroll and J.T. White, all of Elkins. Jean was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one brother, Denver Corley, Jr. and one sister, Helen Corley. Jean attended the schools of Randolph County, had worked for Reidboard Brothers, Beta Shoe Company, G.C. Murphy, K-mart, and had served as manager of the Smart Shop. She enjoyed staying busy with cleaning, yard work, and taking care of her family, and she was a member of the Goff Street Church of Christ. Jean’s request for cremation was honored.
