Jerome Vincent Jerry DiBacco Sr. 1932-2021 Obituary
Jerome Vincent “Jerry” DiBacco Sr., 88, a resident of Parsons departed this life Monday morning at Cortland Acres in Thomas. He had been in declining health.
He was born Dec. 31, 1932, in Thomas, a son of the late Carmon George and Anna Cecilia Devore DiBacco.
On Sept. 5, 1953, at Washington, D.C., he was married to the former Madonna Ruth Barr, who survives. They had celebrated 67 years of marriage.
Also surviving are two sons, Jerome Vincent “Butch” DiBacco Jr. and wife, Kathy, and Joseph Anthony “Joe” DiBacco and wife, Katie, all of Parsons; one daughter, Tina Marie McWilliams and husband, Donnie, of Parsons; one sister, Barbara Sedmock and husband, Edward, of Canton, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Jerome DiBacco III and wife, Christina, Ryan DiBacco and wife, Sarah, Derek McWilliams, Devanne DiBacco, Carmon DiBacco, Corey McWilliams and wife, Callie, Collin DiBacco and Anna DiBacco; six great grandchildren, Kaylee, Eva and Colt, Abby, Maria and Cecelia.
He was a graduate of Thomas High School with the class of 1950 and attended Potomac State College. He was a veteran of the United States Army, drafted in 1953 and stationed in Desert Rock, Nevada, during the atomic warfare testing.
He drove a beer truck for “Riggie” DiBacco, was a reporter for The Inter-mountain and worked for Mountaineer Gas Company, retiring in 1987 after 30 years of service.
In his spare time, he enjoyed searching and writing family history and joke books.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. In his younger years he officiated high school basketball games.
He served as Justice of the Peace for eight years, two-year term as mayor (during the flood of 1985), Tucker County Board of Education member from 1978-1984 and also from 2006-2014, never missing a board meeting. He served two 6-year terms as Tucker County Commissioner. He donated 102 pints of blood.
Most importantly to him — grandfather; He loved his grandkids more than he loved his own kids and that’s something that one can never forget. Love ya Grandad!
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Thursday evening at 7 p.m., at the funeral home, a wake service will be recited. On Friday morning, Mr. DiBacco will be moved to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church of Parsons, where the Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Rev. Father Timothy Grassi will officiate and interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows, where the West Virginia Army Honor Guard, the H.W. Daniels Post No. 29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post No. 3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker County Veterans Assocation will conduct full military honors.
