Jessie Mae Fansler Hornick, 82, a native of Randolph County and a resident of Carpendale, departed this life, Monday, April 22, 2002, at Dawnview Manor at Fort Ashby.
She was born Dec. 9, 1919, in Randolph County, a daughter of the late Ernest Fansler and Icie Fansler.
She was married to Hesse Hornick, who preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1963.
Surviving are three children, Wanetta Faye Miller and husband, George, Carpendale, Loraine E. Scott, Carpendale, and Harold Gene Hornick and wife, Sylvia, Southport, N.C.; one brother, Clarence Fansler, Wiley Ford; five sisters, Elsie Hornick, Beverly, Catherine Carner, Sanford, Fla., Pearl Leasure, Pointon, Fla., Irene Snyder, Oderton, Md., and Beatrice DeAngelo, Fort Ashby; nine grandchildren, Jeffrey G. Miller and wife, Tina, Randal C. Miller and wife, Tammy, Lori M. McCullough and husband, Jeff, Jodi Faye Miller, Shari L. Beitzel and husband, Ronald, R. Brett Scott and wife, Darlene, Craig A. Scott, Bradley Hornick and wife, Karen, and Trevor Hornick and wife, Lisa; 12 great-grandchildren, Ryan J. Miller, Matthew C. Miller, Carissa J. Miller, Randall C. Miller, Truman N. Miller, Joshua A. McCullough, Jenna F. McCullough, Julie K., McCullough, Brandon C. Hornick, Haylee E. Hornick, Lauren R. Hornick and Dean T. Hornick.
She was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Scott; two brothers, Boyd and Gilbert Fansler; and three sisters, Cleo Johnson, Stella Sheets and Marie Evans.
Friends will be received at Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, Md., from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, the funeral hour. The Rev. Mike Santmyire will officiate and interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens at Cumberland, Md.
