Jimmie Ray Sothen, Sr., age 78, of Volga, WV, died Friday, March 25, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 16, 1943, in Upshur County, WV, a son of the late Harry Sothen and Phyllis Arbogast Sothen Robinson.
On June 23, 1999, he married Pearlla Jean Wolfe of Volga who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Renate Black and husband Michael and Darlene Bosley and husband Joe all of WV; five sons, Ricky Sothen and wife Kimberly of VA, Jamie Sothen, Samuel Sothen, Brandon Siron and wife Brittany and Robert Siron all of WV; nine granddaughters, Marissa Sothen, Ashley Sothen, Mackenzie Bosley, Kailyn Bosley, Lindsey Dahman and husband Anthony, Alexis Sothen, Danielle Hardway and husband Cole, Tiereney Sothen and Naria Siron; five grandsons, Justin Williston and wife Shamber, Dustin Sothen and wife Shantelle, Jimmie Sothen III, Bricen Siron and Brendin Siron; four great-granddaughters, Sophia Williston, Avalynn Dahman, Aurora Hardway, and Violet Clutter; four great-grandsons, Jonathan Williston, Bodhi Williston, Carter Hardway and Kyryn Armstead; six sisters, Betty Hamlin of VA, Barbara Radwell of OH, Mary June Ross and husband Lynn of WV, Bonnie Bunting of OH, Wanda Sothen of OH and Lisa Radwell and husband David of VA; seven brothers, William S. Sothen, Sr. of WV, Robert Robinson of WV, Harry Sothen of OH, Ronald Sothen and wife Kathern of OH, Gary Sothen of OH, Bobby Sothen of OH, and Dave Roberts of WV; one brother-in-law, Audie Bennett of WV and one sister-in-law, Brenda Hyre.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Ruth Eneth Scott Sothen; one son, Jimmie Sothen II; two sisters, Sarah Ann Robinson and Linda Bennett; three brothers, Roy Hyre, Walter Robinson and Charles Roberts and his great-grandson, Mason Drew Dahman.
Mr. Sothen was a Christian by faith and served in the U. S. Army.
He worked for the Ford Motor Company in Ohio before returning to West Virginia.
He was a leather craftsman by trade.
Jimmie was a loving husband, father and grandfather who had a huge heart that always helped those in need.
He was a cowboy at heart who adored his horses, especially his Tennessee Walker, Coco.
Friends will be received Wednesday, March 30, 2022, from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Faith Baptist Church in Buckhannon.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM at the church with the Rev. Mark Davis officiating.
Burial will follow at the Sothen Family Cemetery in Volga.
