John J. Haren, 85, of Petersburg and formerly of Onego, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Grant Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Horton, and was a son of the late John Lauson Haren and Alpha (Vance) Haren.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Arvella (Ketterman) Haren, on Dec. 5, 2011, an infant daughter, Jamie and one sister, Shirley Adamson.
Mr. Haren attended Circleville High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He was a life member of the VFW Post 6454 in Petersburg. He retired from General Motors in Ohio.
Surving are one daughter, Deloris Haren of Petersburg; three sisters, Betty Huffman of Seneca Rocks, Bernice Cunningham and husband, Sampson, of Beverly, and Nellie Thompson and husband, Hugh, of Bowden; one brother-in-law, Hancel Ketterman and wife, Linda, of Onego; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m., with Rev. Earl Bible officiating.
Interment will follow in the North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton with military graveside rites accorded by Petersburg VFW Post 6454.
