John L. Landis Sr. 1931-2002 Obituary
John L. Landis Sr., 70, of Route 2, Box 231, French Creek, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at his home in Gould.
Mr. Landis was born Nov. 22, 1931, in Sand Run, a son of the late William Forest and Loverna Pearl Armstrong Landis.
On Nov. 24, 1984, he married Martha Jane Burr Landis, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, John L. Landis Jr. and wife, Deb, Buckhannon; one stepson, James H. Allen and wife, Nettie, French Creek; one daughter, Debra Lou O’Dell and husband, Gary, Hickory, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Elizabeth Mason and husband, Tom, French Creek; three brothers, Dale Landis, Robert Landis and Jim Landis, all of Buckhannon; one sister, Dorothy Phillips, Christiansburg, Va.; two grandsons, John Landis III, Morgantown, and Shawn Michael O’Dell, Hickory, N.C.; two granddaughters, Areta Carr, French Creek, and Cassie Jo O’Dell, Hickory, N.C.; and two stepgrandsons, Joshua Oldaker and Dylan Allen, both of French Creek.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Forest Landis.
Mr. Landis was a coal miner and worked for Upshur Coal Co. He was a member of United Mine Workers Union 1938. He served in the U.S. Army.
Friends will be received at Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel Fork Church Cemetery.
