John Lawrence Zirbs 1957-2021 Obituary
John Lawrence Zirbs, age 63 years, a resident of Elkins, WV, departed this life Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, WV, under the care of WVU Hospice.
He was born Thursday, May 30, 1957 at Elkins, WV a son of the late Rudolph Lawrence and Bernice Lucille Canfield Zirbs. He had never married. Surviving is one sister, Carol Ann Zirbs Murphy and husband Carl of Duncan, SC; one niece, Catherine Murphy of Bellefonte, PA; one nephew, Scott Murphy and wife Jamie of Greenville, SC.
Preceding him in death are two siblings, Andre Charmaine Zirbs and Linda Kay Zirbs.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1975. He had worked as a Newspaper Carrier and inserter for the Elkins Inter-mountain for over thirty-six years and also worked for Seneca Designs for ten years. He was a member of the Elkins High School Boosters Club, the Elkins Council # 603, Knights of Columbus and was well known as the “EHS Superfan”, had been named “Mr. Forest Festival” as well as “Mr. Elkins”. He was a member of Saint Brendan Catholic Church and had served as a Lector.
The family will receive friends at the Saint Brendan Catholic Church, 181 Saint Brendan Way, Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Friday, May 21, 2021, where it is encouraged that you wear Elkins High School Orange and Black. On Friday, at 7:30 PM, at the church, a Vigil Rite will be recited. On Saturday, May 22, 2021, the Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. The Rev. Father Jim O’Connor will be the Presider and interment will follow at the Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins, WV. Masks will be required. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions in John’s memory to Elkins High School, John Zirbs account, 100 Kennedy Drive, Elkins, WV 26241.
