John Wesley White, 53, a resident of 502 Wilson St., Elkins, passed away Wednesday evening, March 26, 2003, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born Jan. 14, 1950, at Harman, the son of Lester and Betty Vance White, who survive at Whitmer.

On May 22, 1976, he was married to Melodee Phillips White, who survives in Elkins.

Also surviving is one son, John Wesley White III, and wife, AnnieMarie, Glen Burnie, Md.; one daughter, Megan Kathleen White, at home; 10 brothers, Kenneth L. White and wife, Debbie, Newark, Ohio, Harry E. White, Rock Hill, S.C., Gary D. White and wife, Belinda, Whitmer, Philip R. White and wife, Sally, Topton, N.C., James R. White, Fort Mill, S.C., William W. White, Whitmer, Donald L. White and wife, Kerry, Spencer, Ind., Larry W. White and wife, Bonnie, Red Creek, Leonard A. White and wife, Sandy, Salisbury, N.C., and Brian K. White of Whitmer; seven sisters, Mrs. Harry (Carolyn Sue) Hardy of Parsons, Mrs. Wayne (Patricia A.) Lambert, Beverly, Mrs. John (Karen J.) Shaver, Charlotte, N.C., Peggy L. Owens, Catawba, S.C., Joyce M. White, Bowden, Mrs. Gary (Catherine L.) VanDevender, Whitmer, and Mrs. Doug (Mary R.) Knight of Denver, N.C.

Twenty nephews, 11 nieces, three great-nephews and four great-nieces also surviving.

Mr. White attended the schools of Randolph County and was a graduate of Harman High School. He was a general foreman and safety supervisor for the Asplundh Tree Expert Co.

He was an avid outdoorsman and amateur photographer. John was a member of the First Church of Christ in Elkins, the National Arborist Foundation and the North American Fishing Club.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Saturday, he will be moved to the First Church of Christ in Elkins for visitation from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. Evangelist Gary L. Kendall Sr. and Evangelist Brian Hamilton will officiate and interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corp., 629 North Ave., Elkins, W.Va., 26241, or to the Elkins High School Athletic Boosters, PO Box 422, Elkins, W.Va., 26241, in memory of Mr. White. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for John Wesley White.
