Junior Hiram Currence, 84, a resident of Elkins and more recently a patient in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away at 11:35 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 23, 1918, in Mill Creek, the son of the late Hiram Abiff and Lilly Josephine Crouch Currence.

In February 1941, at Oakland, Md., he was married to Elsie Irene Ware Currence, who preceded him in death Nov. 6, 1995.

He is survived by one son, Michael Ray Currence and wife, Pam, of Elkins; and three daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Sandra Sue) Hornick of Beverly, Mrs. Tom (Janet Belle) Stephens of Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. Dana (Marla Kay) Pennington of Elkins.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding him in death were one son, Jerry Lee Currence; five brothers, Earl, Ford, Woodrow “Woody,” Cline and Marshall “Bud” Currence; and one sister, Jemus Sonda.

Mr. Currence worked many years in the shipyards at Baltimore, Md., before moving to Elkins. He then worked as a driver for the Reynolds Buslines for several years and later drove for Guttman Oil and retired as a weighmaster for the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a member of Randolph Lodge No. 55 AF&AM of Beverly.

Friends may call at the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Terry A. Burgess and the Rev. Walter Blough officiating.

Interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens where Randolph Lodge No. 55 AF&AM will conduct ritualistic services.
