Lawrence Fox, 86, a resident of Mabie, passed from this life early Tuesday morning, October 1, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in Belington. Lawrence was born Saturday, April 9, 1927 in Cassity, a son of the late Willie Fox and Ethel Gould Fox. On September 3, 1948 at Oakland, MD, he married the former Betty Hodges, who preceded him in death May 26, 2012. They had celebrated sixty-three years of marriage. Left to cherish Lawrence’s memory are two daughters: Sue Fox of Cassity and Ann Rossi of Eleanor, one son, Patrick, and wife Mary, of Belington, three grandchildren: Jessica Fox and husband David Hazer of East Dailey, Nick Rossi and wife, Kelley of Michigan, and Mendy Williams and husband, Jerry of Eleanor, five great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Jade, Jillian Hazer, and Jacob and Madison Rossi, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was one sister, Naomi Montgomery and two brothers, Clive and Carl Fox. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Lawrence attended the schools of Randolph County, and he had served with in the United States Army Air Force in Panama during World War II. He had worked for Bethlehem Coal, Pioneer Lumber, and was a self-employed contract logger for many years. He enjoyed coon hunting and deer hunting, and he loved the lumberjack contests at the Mountain State Forest Festival having won several chainsaw competitions and along with his wife, Betty, won several Jack and Jill competitions. Lawrence was a long time member of the Cassity United Methodist Church where he served as chief trustee for many years. Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 until 6PM. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home chapel on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 11AM. Rev. Stella Faye Moyer will officiate and interment will follow at the Cassity Church Cemetery where members of the H.W. Daniels Post #27, American Legion will present the American Flag.
