Lelia Ruth Shahan, 83, of 204 Coontz Ave., Belington, died Saturday morning, Dec. 7, 2002, in the Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown following a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 6, 1919, near Philippi, a daughter of the late James and Gurna (Foster) Foster.
On Dec. 5, 1942, she was married to Gordon Shahan, who preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1987.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Edith Ketchem Harrison, Belington, and Mrs. Ernest (Helen) Jones, Woodbridge, Va.; two sons, Roy Shahan and wife, Donna, Woodbridge, Va., and Murl Shahan, at home; one sister, Della Dadisman, Belle Vernon, Pa.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Luvada Golden, Vera Shine, Thelma Foster, Enid Foster and Mildred Thompson.
Mrs. Shahan was a homemaker. She was a member of the Belington Church of Christ and the AARP.
Friends may call at Schoonover-stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until noon Tuesday, when Mrs. Shahan will be moved to the Belington Church of Christ, where friends may call from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Michael Phillips, minister of the Belington Church of Christ will officiate and interment will follow in Barbour Memorial Cemetery. The Schoonover-stemple Funeral Home Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
