LENA BAISI, age 88, a former resident of Elkins, WV and more recently a resident of Rockville, MD where she made her home with her daughter and son in law, JoAnn and James Richards, departed this life Friday afternoon, May 13, 2011 at the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, MD.
She was born June 24, 1922 in Bellaire, OH, a daughter of the late Dominick and Rose Bissa Yacovoni. Lena was married to Louis Fred Baisi on August 10, 1946 at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, Coalton, WV. Louis preceded her in death on December 29, 1998. Surviving are two daughters, JoAnn Richards (James), Rockville, MD and Patricia “Patty” Akers (James), Charleston, WV. She is also survived by four grandchildren, James Matthew Richards (Jena); Jason Patrick Richards (Elena), and Alexandra Rose Richards all of Darnestown, MD; J. B. Akers, II (Maryclair) , Charleston, WV; six great grandchildren, James Matthew, Hunter James and Monroe August Richards of Darnestown, MD and Katherine, Ethan and Harper Akers, all of Charleston.
Lena graduated from Coalton High School in 1942 and the Davis Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She had worked for thirty-six years as a Registered Nurse at the former Memorial General Hospital, and retired in 1981 as Supervisor of the Operating Room. She was a member of the Saint Brendan Catholic Church.
The family will receive friends at the Saint Brendan Catholic Church at Elkins on Thursday, from 10 to 11 AM. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 11:30 AM at the church. The Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs, VF will be the Presider and interment will follow at the Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, Northern Regional Office, 1111 Lee Street, East, Charleston, WV 25301.
