Leonard C. Pennington, 68, died Monday Sept. 2, 2002, at his home after an extended illness.
He was a retired mail carrier and was of the Methodist faith.
He was born April 22, 1934, at Slatyfork, a son of the late Edward and Flossie Varner Pennington.
In addition to his parents and wife, Luella Rose Pennington, he was preceded in death by sisters, Louella Mae Dumire, Laura Cathern Jones and Rita Arlene Pennington; and brothers, Grover Wilson Pennington, Ronald William Pennington, Edward Bryan Pennington Jr., Howard Lorway Pennington and Francis Lee Pennington.
Surviving are one daughter, Karen Friel of Bridgeport; one son, Leonard Pennington of Ida, Mich.; three stepdaughters, Linda Lass of Taylorville, Ill., Nancy DeVoe of Grosse Ile, Mich., and Susie Friel of Petersburg; one stepson, Ronald Titus of Smithfield, Va.; four brothers, Roy Delano Pennington of Green Bank, James Laddie Pennington of Durbin, Carl Blake Pennington of LaPulente, Calif., and Paul Dillon Pennington of St. Albans; four sisters, Lea Belle Gum of Cass, Hazel Juanita Hinnerman of Beverly, Betty Lou Virginia Swink of Cass, and Retha Pauline Doyle of Mace; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The Rev. David Rittenhouse will hold funeral services Thursday at 1 p.m. at VanReenen Funeral Home in Marlinton. Burial will follow in Arbovale Cemetery in Arbovale. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
