Leora T. Georges 1912-2003 Obituary
Leora Thompson Georges, 90, a resident of Harrisonburg, Va., departed this life on Tuesday, April 22, 2003, in Rockingham Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health for the past several months.
The daughter of the late Dillon and Anne Huffman Thompson, she was born on Oct. 6, 1912, in Sully and lived her early life in Franklin and Morgantown.
Mrs. Georges lived in Harrisonburg from 1953 until 1962, when she moved to Roanoke where she made her home until 1971, then returned to Harrisonburg.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
On Dec. 11, 1943, she married William J. Georges, who preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1955.
She is survived by a stepson, William Georges Jr., of Harrington Park, N.J.; one stepgrandson and one stepgranddaughter; five half sisters, Grace Lugo of Houston, Texas, Ruth Waybright of Buckhannon, Ruby Cooper of Millersport, Ohio, Betty Woodford of Elkins, and Bessie Meier of Sunbury, Ohio; and three half brothers, Hugh Thompson and Bruce Thompson, both of Bowden, and Franklin Thompson of Mechanicsville, Md.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alethia McAvoy and Mabel Lambert; two brothers, Blake and Bland Thompson; and two half brothers, Lester and Seymour Thompson.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Woodbine Cemetery with Dr. John F. Sloop officiating.
