Lewis Edward Summerfield 1938-2022 Obituary
Lewis E. Summerfield, age 83 years, a resident of Montrose, passed from this life Sunday, February 6, 2022 at the Davis Medical Center. Lewis had been in his usual health and his death was unexpected. He was born March 16, 1938 to the late Gertrude White Summerfield and the late William T. Summerfield. He is survived by three brothers William E. “Billy” Summerfield and Thomas G. “Gayle” Summerfield, both of Elkins, and Donald and Donna Summerfield of Cresaptown, MD. Also surviving are four sisters Joyce “Ellen” Channels and Ralph, Brenda Barb and Annabelle Baer all of Elkins, and Norma Robertson and William of Salisbury, PA. Lewis also had several nieces and nephews whom he cherished dearly including Caleb Vandevender whom he thought of as a nephew. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Jeffery D. (Jeff) Summerfield, a sister Lucille, (Tiny) Vanscoy; three brothers-in-law, “Bill” Chenoweth, Donald Vanscoy and Robert Baer; one sister-in-law, Sandy Summerfield and two nephews, Timothy R. Summerfield and Joseph Dickinson. Lewis attended the schools of Randolph County and was employed at the Dutch Oven Bakery and at Labcraft where he retired after thirty two years of service as a draftsman. He later worked for the Randolph County Board of Education for twenty years prior to retirement. He loved his family get-togethers at his farm. He enjoyed the outdoors and was always busy outside winter and summer. He loved his family and friends and will be sadly missed. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert Baer officiating. Masks and social distancing is recommended for everyone attending the services. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Lewis E. Summerfield.
