Lillian Williams Shorter, 98, of Pax, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital, following a short illness.
She was born Oct. 24, 1903, at Sweeneysburg, a daughter of the late James Orville and Cora Dell Ward Williams.
Surviving are 12 grandchildren, Brenda Stover, Bellbrook, Ohio, Elizabeth Ann Darbysahire, Centerville, Ohio, Gary C. Shorter, St. Albans, Joseph Guider, Ramsey, N.J., Teresa Warren, Oak Ridge, N.J., Lawrence Guider, Ridgefield, N.J., Marie Ann Grafton, Parsons, Kristina Lynn Wamsley, Hendricks, Catherine Lillian Stemler, Philippi, Kimberly Susan Lanham, St. Albans, John Albert Grafton, Winfield, and Kevin Scott Grafton, Martinsburg; 19 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Carson Shorter; one son, James Carson Shorter; two daughters, Madeline Guider and Margaret Ann Grafton; one brother, Orval Williams; two sisters, Minnie Tyree and Leta Painter; and a grandson, James Allen Grafton.
She was a retired cook for Pax High School and Pax Elementary School She was a member of the Long Branch United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Fayette County Senior Citizens and for many years was a Fayette County Election worker.
Friends will be received at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at Long Branch United Methodist Church in Long Branch on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Chalmer Abrams officiating. Interment will follow in Pax Community Cemetery in Pax. Pallbearers will be the grandsons.
