Lloyd Morgan Simmons, 88, a resident of Mabie, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 3, 1914, at Cassity, a son of the late Leslie Dayton and Ivy Zickefoose Simmons.
He was married to Jenny Jackson Seavy, who preceded him in death in 1962.
He is survived by one stepdaughter, Ellen Simmons; two stepgranddaughters, Ivy Bradley and Dorothy Phillips; one brother, Paul Simmons of Buckhannon; and three sisters, Iris Zirkle of Mabie, Maida Chewning of Fisher and Greta Poling of Ohio. Also surviving are four stepgreat-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Donald, Troy and Jacob Simmons; and his stepson, Lawrence Seavy.
Mr. Simmons was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Carpenter First Class in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired coal miner and had also worked as a carpenter and a lumberman. He was a life time member of Tygart Valley Post No. 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Elkins. He will be sorely missed by family and friends, may he rest in peace.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ronald George officiating. Interment will follow at the Rowan Memorial Cemetery at Mabie. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion of Elkins and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Elkins. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Lloyd Morgan Simmons.
