Lois Lorraine Tootie Hill 1928-2010 Obituary
Lois Lorraine “Tootie” Hill of the Gilman Community went home to be with her Lord on Sunday October 24th with her daughters at her side.
“Tootie” was born July 9, 1928 the daughter of the late Clyde and Carole Gum of Harpertown.
On August 14, 1946 she was married to James Robert Hill who preceded her in death on April 3, 1995.
Also preceding her in death was her sister Yvonne Lloyd, and brothers Gerald Gum, Dellus Gum, and infant brother Leon Gum.
“Tootie” is survived by daughters Joyce Judy and Mike of Leading Creek Road, Joni Smailes and Kevin of Saint Albans and son Rob Hill of Kerens.
She is also survived by one brother Edward Gum of Norton and sister-in-law Maxine Gum of Bridgeport.
“Tootie” had four grandchildren, Matt Judy and Erin Judy of Elkins, and Jacob Smailes and Ashton Smailes of Saint Albans.
Also surviving is great granddaughter Kaylee Judy and several nieces and nephews and a host of family and special friends.
“Tootie” was always serving and helping others and will be greatly missed.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elkins for almost 50 years.
At the church she was a member of the Chancel Choir, active in the Joy Sunday School Class, Chairperson of the ladies Good Morning Circle, and served on the Fellowship Board where she spent much of her time in the kitchen cooking.
She was a member of the Leading Creek Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary where she also spent many hours practicing her culinary skills.
Tootie bowled on the Tuesday and Thursday Coffee Leagues for more than 40 years which enabled her to travel to many different cities across the U.S. to bowl in national tournaments and she was a member of CEOS Homemakers Club.
She loved playing cards with the girls, gardening and caring for her lawn.
She also loved watching all sports and was an avid Steeler and Mountaineer fan.
Friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Elkins.
A Going Home Party will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 28th from the church with Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Parli, Rev. Nancy Stevens and Rev. Linda Roberts officiating.
Interment will follow in the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery near Cravensdale.
Serving her as pallbearers will be members of the Leading Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Avenue, Belington, WV 26250 or to the First Baptist Church Chancel Choir, 412 Randolph Ave.,Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of “Tootie”.
